Close to the Belvedere Palace complex, Belvedere 21 museum is Vienna's center of contemporary art. The museum displays incredible artwork created by Austrian artists in the last 70 years and the best of international artists. Exhibitions are also commonly held, allowing visitors to see the most famous Austrian art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Constructed by Karl Schwanzer in 1958, Belvedere 21 was, however, not built as a museum. Schwanzer designed it as the Austrian pavilion for the World Exhibition in Brussels. Later, it moved to Vienna and opened as a museum to display 20th-century art. In 2011, it was remodeled by Adolf Krischanitz, and the museum's focus shifted to contemporary art.
